"The Downward Spiral: Live at Webster Hall" fan-produced DVD

During the 2008 Lights In The Sky tour we began an open camera policy for stills and video during all NIN shows, inviting fans to capture the events with anything from a cell phone to a hi-def video camera. The results have been overwhelming, filling our own galleries with thousands of images and videos from every show, and inspiring a number of ambitious fansourced video projects within the NIN community. Some of those projects are starting to surface now, and we couldn't be happier with the way the fans have organized themselves and created some truly impressive work.

On the recent Wave Goodbye tour, we were unable to professionally film the band's performance of The Downward Spiral at Webster Hall, due to exorbitant fees requested by the LiveNation venue. Our open camera policy, however, remained in tact, and as soon as the show ended fans took matters into their own hands, organizing online to track down everyone who had filmed HD footage of the show. Now, only two months later, the group has released a polished, edited, downloadable DVD of the full Downward Spiral performance from Webster Hall. The entire thing has been recorded, edited, and distributed entirely by fans, and it's the latest example of the amazing things fans will do when their creativity isn't limited by outdated, misguided restrictions.

We filmed all of the other final Wave Goodbye shows professionally, and you can expect to see that footage surface in some form or another in the future. In the meantime, we appreciate the efforts of The NIN Hotline, This One Is On Us, and everyone else who helped to immortalize the Webster Hall performance.

Veronica De La Cruz is in Washington DC today meeting with congressional leaders on the subject of health care. My commitment to Veronica continues as we attempt to spread Eric's story out to a wider audience in hopes of calling attention to the broken health care system in the US. This is just the beginning.

Getting right to the point, we're going to play a handful of shows in NYC, Chicago and LA starting August 22nd. They will be informal affairs in medium to small venues with longer set-lists, possible special guests, cool openers and other surprises. Upon reflection, the NIN/JA tour felt like we had to rush through sets due to a limited allotted set length and many shows were in daylight - it just didn't feel right to end NIN that way. An offer to headline a festival (being announced soon) set the idea in motion to play some FUN shows to end this up with. If we can get it together we'll film these shows, too.

In NYC we'll be playing Bowery Ballroom, Webster Hall and Terminal 5. In Chicago, the Aragon Ballroom. In LA we'll be at The Wiltern, The Henry Fonda, The Palladium and The Echoplex. These should be cool, unusual and unique shows and I hope you come out - this is it.

So far, The Horrors will be joining us for some shows in NYC, Mew will be with us at other shows in NYC, Chicago and LA, and perhaps more.
Details and ticket info will be announced shortly, so check back.

Goodbye Pablo Castelaz

My manager, dear friend, and colleague Jeff Castelaz (the co-founder of Dangerbird Records), along with his wonderful wife Jo Ann, are going through something which no parents should ever have to go through:

The untimely passing of their beautiful six year-old son, Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz.

Pablo passed away yesterday, after a very courageous battle with cancer over the past thirteen months. Pablo left this life peacefully, at home, in the loving arms of his parents and his brother Grady.

Over the past very difficult year, The Castelaz family has shown truly stunning strength, compassion, love, and sacrifice. I bow to them with unending respect and admiration. You can read more about Pablo, and their journey, here:

The Pablove Foundation, started by Jeff and Jo Ann shortly after Pablo's diagnosis, is a not-for-profit, independent operation that specifically supports the pediatric cancer community in and around the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Once there, you'll also notice an option to purchase the "Give Listen Help Volume 5" compilation, which Dangerbird put together. We have become involved with raising money to help save the life of Eric de la Cruz, a young man who's in dire need of a heart transplant but has been consistently rejected by our country's broken, uncaring health care system. Thanks to an overwhelming outpouring of support from the NIN fanbase, we have raised an utterly incredible sum of over $850,000 in just two weeks' time to help fund Eric's transplant operation, and hopefully shine some light on a health care crisis that's affecting millions of other people in similar situations every day.

We're continuing our efforts to raise money for this important cause, and our friends Tony Hawk and Jane's Addiction are now also getting involved. Here are the donation packages we're currently offering:

NIN iPhone app updated with bug fixes, enhancements

The long-awaited 1.0.3 update for the NIN: Access iPhone app is now available in the iTunes app store. This free update fixes a number of critical bugs, including the crashing bug that plagued many international users. We encourage all Access users to download this update, particularly those who have found the app to be unstable.

In addition to the bug fixes, we've made some minor tweaks to "Nearby" and added support for legacy usernames.

For those who have been awaiting this update in order to use the app, we apologize for the extended delay. Anyone still experiencing bugs after installing this update, please report them here.

The NIN/JA tour begins tomorrow - we'll be providing a link to take you to the venue on the Access map interface where you can watch activity from the show as it happens.

Trent has won the Webby Award for Artist of the Year. The award recognizes the free release of The Slip and NIN's increasing level of online connectedness with fans.

Update: Nine Inch Nails has also been awarded Creative Review's Annual "Best In Book" for their interactive stage design on 2008's Lights In The Sky tour.
