Pablo left this life peacefully, at home, in the loving arms of his parents and his brother Grady.

Over the past very difficult year, The Castelaz family has shown truly stunning strength, compassion, love, and sacrifice. I bow to them with unending respect and admiration. You can read more about Pablo, and their journey, here:

Pablog

And here's another, very profound reason to admire this family:

The Pablove Foundation

The Pablove Foundation, started by Jeff and Jo Ann shortly after Pablo's diagnosis, is a not-for-profit, independent operation that specifically supports the pediatric cancer community in and around the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Have a read through the website linked above, and please donate if you can. Once there, you'll also notice an option to purchase the "Give Listen Help Volume 5" compilation, which Dangerbird put together. It features contributions from Radiohead, Garbage, Silversun Pickups, Of Montreal, Oasis, Bat for Lashes, Sea Wolf, Eric Avery, Ladytron, and many more. All proceeds go to The Pablove Foundation.

Thank you very much for reading.

With love,
Justin

Post NIN/JA / SSSC Debut out

Thanks for making the NIN/JA tour an overwhelming success. Thanks to an overwhelming outpouring of support from the NIN fanbase, we have raised an utterly incredible sum of over $850,000 in just two weeks' time to help fund Eric's transplant operation, and hopefully shine some light on a health care crisis that's affecting millions of other people in similar situations every day.

We're continuing our efforts to raise money for this important cause, and our friends Tony Hawk and Jane's Addiction are now also getting involved. Here are the donation packages we're currently offering:

- Signed, limited edition complete Tony Hawk skateboards with signed, limited edition Nine Inch Nails albums (Ghosts, Still, and The Slip). Click here for info.

- A rare opportunity to hang out with Jane's Addiction while they jam in their dressing room backstage at one of the upcoming NIN/JA shows. Click here for info.

Thanks for your continuing support and for showing the power of a strong, compassionate community.

Trent

HELP OUT and HANG OUT

For those of you interested in meeting us / hanging out backstage at any upcoming NIN/JA dates AND helping someone in dire need, please CLICK HERE for more information.

UPDATED INFO ON WHAT TO EXPECT FOR DONATIONS - CLICK HERE

UPDATED INFO ON THE TONY HAWK / NIN PACKAGE - CLICK HERE

NIN iPhone app updated with bug fixes, enhancements

The long-awaited 1.0.3 update for the NIN: Access iPhone app is now available in the iTunes app store. These performances essentially created and defined the term "alternative" rock in the US, created an ongoing festival franchise that is still thriving (Lollapalooza), set the stage for Nirvana to shift popular taste a few months later, and were really fucking FUN to play and attend - truly the best times I've had. The shows were epic. So epic, they propelled NIN to the "next level" (whatever that means), but caused Jane's to implode. The band broke up at the end of that tour.

Fast forward to the present. Corporate rock STILL sucks. A friend tells me they saw the original Jane's lineup play a tiny show in LA that was unbelievable. I break out my Jane's records and am amazed by how vital they sound. These guys were the real deal and in this current climate mostly dominated by poseurs and pussies it was refreshing to hear something that sounded dangerous, volatile, beautiful and SINCERE.
Emails were sent, phone calls were made, dinner was arranged, ideas were discussed and the next thing I know we're in the studio experimenting. We laugh, we get to know each other, we cry, we yell, we almost quit, we record LOTS of guitar solos, we discuss, we actually begin to all communicate, we yell some more, we become FRIENDS, we laugh again and we do some great things. I get to see first hand why they broke up all those years ago but I also get the chance to see four distinct personalities that become an INCREDIBLE band when they're in the same room.

In NIN world, 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of our first releases. I've been thinking for some time now it's time to make NIN disappear for a while. Last year's "Lights in the Sky" tour was something I'm quite proud of and seems like the culmination of what I could pull off in terms of an elaborate production. It was also quite difficult to pull off technically and physically night after night and left us all a bit dazed. After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year - much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane's to see if they'd want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Are there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope.
Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.
Look for tour dates soon and I hope to see you out there.

Trent

Lights In The Sky Tour Video Projects

The wealth of live tour footage that recently surfaced was released with the hope that fans will come together to edit a wide variety of video content, from music videos to full DVDs. I had an amazing situation lined up that would have allowed me to film the show in 3D with James Cameron's team for a theatrical release as well as DVD / BluRay, etc. We had an extra date added to the tour that we were going to give away all the tickets for and have a filming party / thank you show.

I made two critical mistakes. One was to approach a certain record company that owns some of the song rights about producing / funding. The second was to allow said company to fuck around as usual for months before saying um... no. We then achieved the impossible by finding alternate production / funding but the timetable is too rushed to get it filmed comfortably with the remaining time left on the tour. This tour and a lot of the personnel involved finish at the end of this leg, so we can't push filming into Jan / Feb.

Deep breath...
This was an amazing tour and production - certainly the best thing I've ever been involved with and likely the final tour for NIN on this scale. Thank you to those who came out to see it and forgive me for having a Kanye West moment, but this was FOR SURE the best show of the year and any bullshit end-of-the-year poll you may read in the next few weeks that says otherwise simply has it wrong. Those of you who saw it know I'm right.

The shows we have announced in 2009 and any more that may be announced will be a completely different approach with some different personnel and will likely be the last for the foreseeable future.

** UPDATE MONDAY Dec 8**
Camera / camcorder policy is back to normal. The next and last "bring your camera / camcorder" show will be Sacramento, Dec 12.

NEW SHIT ON NIN.COM

Forget Twilight or Chinese Geography or 808s and Constipates or whatever else you may be wasting your time on... we've added some kick-ass new features to nin.com that may or may not work properly, so head on in and get busy!
Rob will now explain what we've done:

Nin.com's new image and video galleries aggregate media from Flickr and YouTube, allowing nin.com users to share their NIN photos, videos, artwork, and other content, which can then be organized, rated, and discussed by other fans. Your nin.com profile can now display your image and video contributions, as well.

You can browse individual galleries from every show of the 2008 tour, and soon we'll be adding past tours as well. The goal is to have the ultimate database of NIN images and videos right here on nin.com, created and organized by the fan community.

The galleries are still in beta, but we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to start using them while we continue to enhance functionality, work out bugs, and add new features. Expect support for favorites, descriptions, comment ratings, view counts, personal galleries, feeds, and more in the coming weeks. Please read the FAQ for gallery rules and guidelines, as well as instructions for adding your media to the site.

Welcome, Ilan!

With great pride and excitement I announce the addition of Ilan Rubin to the lineup beginning next year. To get the game on your iPhone or iPod Touch, click here to visit the iTunes store.

Additionally, Tapulous is giving away floor tickets for every NIN show between 11/8 and 12/12 - and one winner will get a Les Paul guitar signed by Trent. To enter, just submit a score of over 150,000 points on any track in the game. Each submission counts as one contest entry, so you can submit as many times as you like.
